Organisational Challenge

How might we shape a new AI-powered mental health companion that creates meaningful value for the business, people, and society?

The challenge was not only to define a compelling value proposition, but to navigate the complexities of developing AI for mental health, establishing responsible ethical boundaries, identifying appropriate guardrails, and ensuring the product could evolve in ways that remained relevant across different regions and cultural contexts.

At the same time, the team needed a clear research strategy to turn emerging insights and trends into actionable decisions and support the product’s longer-term evolution.

My Role

How might we shape a new AI-powered mental health companion that creates meaningful value for the business, people, and society?

I worked as a strategic research partner to the Product team, collaborating closely with Product Leadership, Research Leadership, Clinical Research specialists, Designers, and Engineers.

I helped define the product’s business, human, and social goals, translating these into a clear value proposition and principles for responsible AI development. This included shaping ethical guidelines, guardrails, and practical dos and don’ts for the AI companion.

I also brought a futures thinking perspective to explore how changing behaviours, technologies, and societal expectations could shape the opportunity. I designed and facilitated a strategic workshop that brought together cross-functional perspectives, emerging trends, and research insights to identify and align on potential directions.

Finally, I developed a 6-month research roadmap, creating a framework for turning ongoing learning into strategic decisions and helping establish the foundations for a more continuous, in-house innovation practice.

The Impact

The work created greater alignment around what the AI companion should deliver, for whom, and why, balancing commercial opportunity with human needs and broader social considerations.

It provided the team with:

  • A clearer value proposition and strategic direction
  • A framework of ethical principles and guardrails for responsible AI development
  • Alignment around business, human, and social goals
  • A set of potential future directions informed by trends and research
  • A 6-month research roadmap connecting insights to strategic decision-making
  • Foundations for building a more continuous in-house innovation capability

Challenging conventional thinking

The gap between a strategy and its results is almost never technical. It’s human.

The world is changing faster than you can process and you’re making decisions without a clear view of where things are heading

I bring strategic thinking and human insights into the work, practical tools for making better decisions today, grounded in how people and behaviours are actually shifting, so you’re not only thinking about the next quarter, but also about how today’s decisions support the future you want to build, considering complexity and uncertainty.

Focusing not only on the what, but also on the how

Changing strategy without changing how you operate often leads to the same outcomes under a different name. Building a prosperous and sustainable present and future also requires evolving the way decisions are made, work is approached, and teams operate.

Committed to creating prosperous realities for all

Real prosperity means more than financial results. I work with organisations, teams and individuals who understand that what’s good for people, the organisation and the world around them isn’t in conflict with strong performance, but actually what makes it sustainable.

It's time to lead transformation and create relevant results for all
